The approach was originally called the Neurobehavioral Model. Diane developed it to support individuals prenatally exposed to alcohol. FASCETS stood for Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Consultation, Education, and Training Services. The FASCETS Neurobehavioral Approach is relevant and effective regardless of the source of brain-based difference. It has improved outcomes for people diagnosed with dementia, autism, ADHD, traumatic brain injuries, FASD, and many other diagnoses and people with no diagnosis at all.
First Diane and now the FASCETS team has provided workshops and training on FASD and the FASCETS Neurobehavioral Approach globally which has transformed the lives of thousands worldwide. FASCETS workshops provide information about the FASCETS brain-based approach and the tools to implement it in all settings in order to create person-specific supports regardless of the source of the brain-based difference (e.g., FASD, autism, ADHD, dementia, acquired brain injuries, other diagnoses, or perhaps unknown). Diane Malbin trained the first group of facilitators in 2009. Today, there are nearly 100 certified facilitators worldwide, spanning four continents in seven countries, transforming lives and creating a more inclusive world where people with all brain-based differences are understood and embraced for who they are. FASCETS also customizes workshops, consultation, and on-going support in order to translate the approach for specific settings. The team develops new material based on current research, including an updated and expanded version of Diane’s original book: Trying Differently Rather than Harder.
